This is the case of my client who runs an association, which was very successful in the past, but nowadays does not have any clients left anymore. This is her digital story from SEO glory to zero and her question on doing a web relaunch or website optimization [Case Study 2024].

I am not sure exactly what happened, but at the start 2019, maybe even before, as the end of 2018, her website got hacked and had a lot of Spam and Porn rushing through it.

I guess, then came a backup, but that also crashed soon after, maybe it was also already infected. So there was a relaunch, which somehow did not work well. Then came another relaunch at about position D in April / Mai of 2021.

The big customer question: what to do to get back to the state as in 2019?
Well, we are at a stage where many things got wrong and SEO is not the same as 5 years ago. Since then we had Covid, as Corona, where everyone rushed online and many tried to take over keywords, therefor many competitors have appeared.

Here is what one of the big SEO gurus has to say about SEO:

Search Engine Optimisation is not as simple as just checking a box and we get the number one spot on the rankings. Algorithms and rankings have become significantly more complicated. Adding Keywords won’t just cut it anymore. Strategies have to develop. Lucky us, the number of search engines has developed also such as Instagram, which is also a very big one.

We live in a fast developing world. The technology from yesterday could possibly already be outdated, but don’t just take my word for granted.

“Fourth, you have to keep updating your content.

Wikipedia ranks well because its content is continually updated.”

Neil Patel, on X / Twitter

Now a days, if you say there is one important thing, that is customer oriented content. You will rank best, if you serve the best possible content to your customers.

Website Revamp: Relaunch vs. Optimization

Your website is your digital storefront, and just like a physical store, it needs occasional maintenance and improvements to stay fresh and inviting. When considering how to address website shortcomings, you have two main options: a website relaunch or website optimization. Choosing the right path depends on the state of your current website and your overall goals.

A website relaunch is a more comprehensive overhaul. It involves significant changes to the website’s design, functionality, and potentially even its underlying technology. This could be necessary if your website is outdated, has a poor user experience, or doesn’t reflect your brand identity anymore. A relaunch can be a great opportunity to implement new features, improve content organization, and make your website more mobile-friendly. However, it’s a more time-consuming and resource-intensive project compared to website optimization.

Website optimization, on the other hand, focuses on making improvements within the existing website framework. This could involve tweaks to the design, content revisions, or technical SEO enhancements. If your website’s core structure is sound but lacks polish, optimization can be a more efficient way to address issues like slow loading times, confusing navigation, or low conversion rates. It’s also a good option if you want to improve your website’s search engine ranking without a complete redesign.

Ultimately, the decision between a relaunch and optimization comes down to a cost-benefit analysis. Consider the severity of your website’s issues and how well the current platform meets your needs. If you have a clear vision for a complete overhaul and the resources to support it, a relaunch might be the way to go. But for many businesses, website optimization offers a faster and more cost-effective way to enhance their online presence.

We wish you well!
